To bring you up to speed on the last day.  Due in part to incorrect handling of the server recovery, recovery went to reinstall.  The data on the installation became completely inaccessible.

So the site has been restored along with the entire server being recovered to a new OS installation, and some data unfortunately has been lost between yesterday morning and now.  Particular apologies to Bugs for his heartfelt blog which will unlikely be restored.

Avatars are not something that was backed up, so you'll have to reupload those.

The process is still ongoing on the rest of the server.  And yes, it's 3am.

I must have missed this, the site wouldn't load last night but the rest of the net was slow to me too.

We had a meltdown? Well done Yoda on getting things back.

Hey Yoda. I have a question.

Just to have some peace of mind since I worry about online security and all that, is everything fine now? The hacking incident this passed week scared me a little and I was afraid to come to this site for awhile.

I know you've been taking care of it which we all appreciate very much. Happy

So just asking if we're completely in the clear and back to normal?

Thanks. Happy

The problem originated with an unpatched OSCommerce-based site (enjoyably, that our company didn't develop).  OSCommerce is an open-source e-commerce platform.  Combine this with an unpatched kernel subject to a privilege escalation vulnerability and you get big problems.

We're on a new server installation, and the e-comm site is offline until further notice.
