I also find the interactivity (or lack thereof) strange. I saw balloons, tried to shoot them, nothing. Saw a crow, shot it, it died. I started the game expecting RE4 elements and there it fell kinda flat. There seems to be little exploration and/or side paths. I was expecting things like the scanning and the handprints in Revelations and found very little like that also. I found some Snake Symbol in a drawer you had to shoot, but it was pretty much on the beaten path.I l also agree with one of the reviewers when he got annoyed by a flimsy little folding chair in his path, barring his way. The game seems to be simplified in the shooting and exploring dept and supplemented with cut-scenes and QTE's.

Those emblems are well hidden all over the place. The exploration is really no different than RE4 or RE5, you will find this game has some large areas that are bigger than any room in RE4 or RE5. There are some hidden treasure rooms in certain levels as well.  I would say RE4 overall had the better hidden secrets but I put this game ahead of RE5 in that department.

(Also some balloons pop. In the courtyard you can pop all the balloons you want if that is what you are looking for Nyaa )

I am going to rank the last three console RE games in different categories.

Gameplay (talking about mechanics, feel for the game): RE5 > RE4 > RE6

I put RE5 ahead of RE4 cause they are basically exactly the same but the added melee moves make RE5 a bit more smooth to play. RE6 while having more options doesn't feel as I am in the same control as the other two.

Level Design: RE4>>>>> RE6 > RE5

Not much of a contest here as RE4 is one of the greatest designed games ever. I put RE6 ahead of RE5 just cause of the insane amount of different situations and interesting areas the game puts you in.

Pacing: RE4 > RE5 >>>>> RE6

No contest that RE4/5 flow so much better than the horribly uneven RE6.

Bosses: RE4 >>> RE5 > RE6

RE4 I think stands as the clear cut winner here. RE5 and RE6 both have awesome bosses and kind of crappy bosses. I think RE5 has less crappy bosses.

Storyline: RE5 >>> RE6 > RE4

RE5 easily has the best story of the three simply cause it has the best characters. RE4 is cheesy awesome but it might as well be a side story. RE6 had some really great voice acting and character moments.

Extras: RE6 > RE5 > RE4

RE6 wins in the extras category with loads of online options, agent hunt and mercs. Plus it will have loads of DLC modes. So far the modes have been every bit as fun as the other games.

What game are you playing Coop? After you do the Leon sequence in the beginning, it definitely does the RESIDENT EVIL... 6... title screen shout!

Yes, but I don't want to have to watch through the credit roll of Spider-man every time I want to hear it.

Finished the Chris campaign. Wow, I can see where the Gamespot 4.5 impression came from. I almost sold the game then and there, but I soldiered on and am now going through Leon's part. It's beginning to redeem itself.

So I'll be curious as to what the final word is. Is RE: Revelations the best RE game this year?

Its definetly more solid from start to finish. As a portable game it is pretty fantastic. But in terms of campaign compared to campaign I had more fun with RE6.

RE5 controls IDENTICAL to RE4 with some nice improvements. RE4 feels a bit too restrictive when you go back after playing RE5. RE5 allows instant weapon switching, you rather pause the game and enter a menu every time???

I completely understand the reasoning behind the QTE's. Besides being cinematic and flashy and throwing a bit of 'Western' God of War style button mashing in there, they are there (I feel) for another reason:  When I would play a RE game, I would find myself creeping along slowly, expecting something to jump out of the darkness at any moment. It would become a very FOCUSED shooter at points. Since 6 focuses so much more on Shooting and Melee (at least so far for me), I feel the developers DID NOT want you just creeping about, gun drawn, laser sight pointing out in front of you, focused on the next enemy head to shoot; that would get dull. Instead, they mixed things up, break your concentration on purpose and throw things at you to keep you on your toes. This is done to snap you back to reality, to what you are doing and the craziness around you and not have you inch through the environments waiting JUST to shoot. I actually LIKED the train-track segment and when the ambulance came crashing through (and actually laughed out loud when they happened) as they broke me out of my focused 'trance' that I was in. The game creates a kind of nervousness along with the suspensefulness in that way and plays with your emotions like a true RE game should.

So far, having only played a few hours of the Leon campaign, I don't understand where the reviews came from.

Awww... I can't at the moment. I was playing for a good portion of the morning and now I go need to go to a training session. I was travelling for a good LOOOOONG couple of hours yesterday and feel the need to work out a bit and stretch my muscles. Had you been on earlier it definitely would have been a go!

One last thing: The town you go through in the Leon section VERY STRONGLY resembles my old college town! Running around there, through some of the buildings and homes, shooting people in hoodies and girls in halter tops and shorts... kinda freaking me out a little bit! Playing with my head in a totally unintentional way, there!

You know what? For now I am liking the challenge on 'Veteran' and the struggle. I think I will wait to employ Vader mode until I actually NEED it!

Ummm, Vader...? When do you actually get to SPEND Skill Points?

Did the Communications Woman (I forget her name) say she sent me a Manual to read (How to play)? Where is it? I don't see it in my Inventory or on the 'Select' screen?

Well I don't have to beat the game for you, I can tag along and let you figure everything out yourself. But I understand.
