Ten years ago today Jeff G released his Kane and Lynch review. Two days from then he was fired. That lead to the chain reaction which ended the GS we knew and eventually lead to some forum members to leave and build a new home... this home.

Ten years guys. It's crazy, what we have is special. Love you all.

And screw you jeff for 8.8! Never forget!

10 years? Wow.

Yeah it must be, I remember I left just before Mario Galaxy launched.

I remember trying to coax GG back to Gamespot by sending him the Galaxy soundtrack through a pm.  His response, “I’m done with Gamespite!”  LOL

Funny, the Gaf situation reminded me of our situation ten years ago.

I think that was a typo. It was meant to say Gameshite.

Is it Edge or Leo who groped someone in Ibiza?

It was Iga. Nyaa

I guess I should’ve clarified I meant the users leaving the site in droves, not the sexual assault.

I remember that he is the reason I don't trust any reviews because he was fired for giving Kane and Lynch a bad review. It was heavily advertised on Gamespot so they expected it would get good reviews.

Him getting fired was when I realized not to trust reviews just to make up my own opinion though I do follow fan reviews because they are closer to what it actually is; you have extremes on both sides giving it a 10 or a 1 so they average out to get a more accurate review.

Hey, who knows what else Gerstmann was involved in other than giving a game a low score. Until the NDA breaks, I'm going to assume Kane and Lynch was a smokescreen!

One thing remains the same. Jeff sucked before he was fired, and Jeff has sucked ever since he was fired.

He was the worst reviewer they had there, but because he was there forever and he had a bunch of his friends with him, he made a career out of it and even got to become EIC after Kasavin left which was the real downfall of Gamespot. I'm checked out his Giantbomb site a few times over the years and got a distinct impression of MEH every time.

Yeah Gamespot had been going downhill for at least a solid year and Jeff G was just the point when people realized that it had hit such a low level it wasn't worth staying.

I remember that since blogs were introduced most people were more active there instead of the boards. There were so many trolls, and if you ever flamed them or spoke out against it you got modded for it and nothing ever happened to them. Then their reviews which used to be the best..... started making less and less sense. Then they started modding peoples blogs who didn't agree with them, that crossed a line.

Then a few weeks after I left, I was almost kinda happy the Gertsmann thing happened as it meant I got more time to spend with the small selection of people that actually mattered to me from Gamespot. I wish more had made the jump. If that event hadn't happened who knows where we'd all be right now. I remember trying 1up for a bit, didn't take. Then that site closed. I did like GAF, but they were hacked and I couldn't log into my account for like 2 years with no process to get me in again.

Oh god that's funny, I had forgotten about the GameSpot blogs. I had a pretty active one, and over all pretty receptive comments, except for one woman. She always found a reason to shit on everything I wrote. It was not quite typical trolling, but she always found a way to sound so condescending and every response she wrote.

Splitting up the userbase with UCB's and blogs was the dumbest thing GS could have done. It sucked all the quality out of the GGD.

So she only followed your blog out of spite? LOL

I forgot about UCBs, that did suck away from GGD

System wars was fun. I loved reading ridiculous threads. A lot of it was obviously tongue in cheek and the ones that weren't were still funny, cause they were crazy.
