Just finished Shin Megami Tensei V. Whew, what a lengthy game. It was very enjoyable and there’s still some things left to do in it. Will definitely play some more, acquire more demons, finish a few remaining side quests, see the other endings. Great game overall despite getting frustrated the odd time with trying to figure out the map layout. Not quite a 9 but I would give it a very solid 8.5/10.

I took a few minutes to look at my friends list on the switch, and saw that you had put in 117 hours into that game? God damn!

So would that be considered a lot, or rather not much time at all?

I'd put it on the very high end of things. I beat the game at 75 hours, and outside of some of the really tough optional boss fights that are opened up at the very end of the game, I didn't think I left very much behind. Really there's just those fights and these little characters called Miman that you can hunt the different worlds for (SMTV's equivalent of Koroks).

Yeah I can be a pretty slow player at times. LOL

I did get all the Miman, did most of the quests, and did a lot of just general exploring. Spent a large amount of time getting demons and doing fusion stuff. Got rightly lost a couple of times didn’t help either. I also will sometimes just let the game run while I take a break or do other things.

You should see my time for Monster Hunter World. Got over a 1,300 hours in that one.

one could argue that's just a bit excessive.

1. Beat Halo Infinite Campaign - its the best a Halo campaign has been since Halo 3, its still inferior to Halo 1 and 3. Open world is too sparse looking, I get tired of looking at the same forerunner tunnels, not enough interesting diversity of encounters in main missions, bosses are among the genres better bosses, which means they are fucking mediocre, and its halo ass halo but now the bullet economy isn't even a thing ebcause you have a refill station. The multiplayer is once again what I'm here for anyway, good job on fucking that up somehow again 343 you clowns.

2. Prey - That's a pretty cool ass game. I think it still has the Arkane immersive sim problem of nothing really pushing back against you being a super powered WMD, but its got a more enjoyable presentation/atmosphere/setting than the Dishonored games (low bar). Soundtrack is cool, the idea makes more sense here as there is some element of resource management early, that of course can go out the window. Like Halo Infinite the game undermines it with a free way to get the stuff you need. Namely the operators who heal you and patch up your suit. Need to play Moon Crush

3. Return of the Obra Dinn - This game is fucking cool as shit. First good mystery solve game ever ever, fuck la noire and ace attorney. The difference? Crazy concept, but you, the player, like actually have to figure shit out and try to piece things together with fragments of info at a time. Wild, I know. A detective game thinking the player isn't a fucking idiot.

4. The Evil Within - so I actually never beat this game 7 years ago. I got like to Chapter 12 or 13 n stopped. So I figured id fire it back up and do the deed. I don't know why I stopped this games combat is pretty solid. It's obviously no Resi 4, and were it not for PN 03, it be Mikami's worst game, but like........being Mikami's worst game is like Rockstar's greatest video game ever. Namasayin?

5. Alien Isolation - same as above, except I know why I stopped. This game really shits the bed after like chapter 10 when you launch that Alien out of the ship. It just goes on and on and on and on and on. It ends on a whimper.

I beat Secret Files 2 Puritas Cordis.

So boring, no logic to the puzzles. Script and dialogue written by a robot.

In terms of graphic adventures it's on par with Grim Fandango in terms of no logic to item use and no hints whatsoever.

There are things a normal mind would never imagine doing.

It's probably one of my least liked Graphic Adventures I've ever played.

New Pokemon Snap is done, though I suspect I'll play it for a little while longer. The game is pure utter fun. I'm so happy Nintendo finally revisited the concept, because it just makes me happy when I play it. Nothing hard about it, but that's not really what it's about.

Anyway, the credits have ruled, but I'm still going to revisit some of the levels as there is actually quite a bit of game left. I'm not going to go full completion, but I still have curiosity to see what's out there. Anyway, a review for this one might be forthcoming.

I beat Route 96 yesterday.  It was interesting.  You play a teenager trying to cross the border and escape from a totalitarian state as the election nears.  Every time you succeed (or fail) you'll start again as another teen.  You need to eat to stay alive and scrape some money together for food or bribes.  The game consists of small closed off area's like a diner, a gas station or a festival, where you'll meet recurring characters, help them out or do some light puzzles.  Each of the 7 or so recurring characters has a completion meter and it's clear that you won't see everything on a first run, although I think I did see through about 2/3rd of the 'content' the game has to offer.  You'll often be faced with clearly tagged choices in which to express your political stance, either expressing the desire to revolt, to resolve the issues through the democratic process of voting, or to just not care a shit and just want to get out.

All in all I enjoyed what I saw and am still debating if I'd start a new game+ to see if making different choices actually impacts how the game plays out, other than what ending you might get.  It's clearly an indy game, with models and animation clearly lagging behind a generation or two, but that just added to the heart and charm of it all for me.

8/10

Finished Resident Evil 3 Remake on the Xbox One and while not quite as good as RE2 Remake it was still a very solid game and quite enjoyable. 8/10

I was going to get it but it looks very strange. Is it good and can you describe the gameplay?

There isn't any. Its a point n click type adventure game minus the puzzles, works fine on a gamepad too. A lot of your interactions are picking dialogue choices (and you don't just pick one characters response, you sort of pick the script at times), interacting with people for info n where to go, and then you like travel on this map thing for brief periods. Soaking in the atmosphere, the vibe, and the narrative. What I find compelling is that the story told is actually pretty good, I'd argue, and maybe Thomas can speak to a better example, its the most american, a video game story has been, and not in the shlocky fuck yeah america sort of way. But more on the countries failures between capitalism butt fucking the shit out of towns in the midwest/middle america/the south, compromising peoples jobs, their health n shit, paired with some of our values n obsessions.

I don't think the game would be an example of the strengths of the medium as a story telling medium, because nothing it does (sans maybe the entertainment) truly elevates the story being told, at least not consistently. Maybe some moments here and there, but the story that is told is quiet strong from the point of view of moment to moment writing and thematic strengths. It's not always subtle, but it's not short on interesting subtext to read. As far as games I would normally dunk on, Kentucky Route Zero is the one I'd make excuses for liking. Mostly because that soundtrack has stuck with me all these days after beating it.

#7 Beat DoDonpachi Resurrection. "beat". .....I'm shit at shmups, I want to be a shmup guy, right now its feeling like I just like the idea of being a shmup guy lol. I'll stick with it tho to climb the leaderboard, its neat, illequipped to talk about it on any critical level.
