This has been something I've been thinking about for a while, but Aspro's little polyglotal skit convinced me to actually make a thread about it.  For us Belgians, we're very used to watching series, movies and whatnot, as well as listening to music, in many different languages.  Most of the stuff we watch is Engilsh with subtitles, but we've got French as well and don't shy away from German, Spanish or Italian.  Same goes for music.  We'll even have Belgian bands singing in multiple languages.  But we are a small country, surrounded by nations who speak languages that are spoken around the world.  we get thaught English, French and a basic understanding of German in school.  Only kids shows and movies ever get dubbed, and even then I feel that we do a terrific job, where the authenticity of the voices of the characters are preserved.  I've heard French dubs of English programs and they just don't care how anyone originally sounds, which makes for bizare listening.

But what with you Anglosaksens?  Do you speak multiple languages?  Do you watch shows with subtitles, or do you never leave your Anglosaksish bubble?

I do it a lot. I make a habit of watching movies in other languages. I've even watched TV shows in Mandarin (and Japanese, but that's not surprising). At the beginning of every year I spend two weeks watching movies in languages other than English. I also listen to music in other languages (Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish, French, Italian, Persian, Russian, Czech, Yiddish, Norwegian, Hebrew and several others). I have some ability with Spanish but I'm not immensely interested in Spanish-language media. I've watched YouTube videos in Spanish, I suppose.
