One thing that really irks me about the Virtual Console is that it's only a virtual console. With the Game Boy Advance defunct and the DS being only backwards compatible with GBA games (and in fact, the DSi won't even be backwards compatible with those), Nintendo is leaving a great number of gaming gems in the dust bin of history, left out in the cold whilst even crappy old console games are made available on modern hardware. The SNES had the Super GameBoy and the GC had the Game Boy Player... so where is the Wii's handheld game fix? Don't you think Nintendo should make these classics just as avaialable as the console ones we can download at any time with the Virtual Console? Yes, the console game selection on the VC is still lacking, but at least the consoles are represented and their games still being released on the VC!

Think of how many old Nintendo games we could be playing once again on current hardware:

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
Metroid II: The Return of Samus
Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel

And that is only my wishlist. Furthermore, there are only three franchises represented there! Think of Mario and Wario. Think of everything else on Nintendo handhelds that you can no longer play on modern hardware, whether published by Nintendo or a third party! There's a ton of quality software out there just waiting to captivate us once again!

And what is Nintendo going to do about Game Boy Advance games that are no longer being made? If it's too soon to pose that question, think of their next handheld, which will probably only be backwards compatible with DS software!

Golden Sun
Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age
Astro Boy: Omega Factor
Metroid: Zero Mission
Metroid Fusion
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap

... and more!

Surely the list of quality old handheld games is too great for Nintendo to ignore now when there have been two older Nintendo systems capable of playing an even smaller handheld library!

Are those of us who had some of our best gaming experiences on older handhelds simply going to be let starve half to death? Link's Awakening was my first real Zelda experience--should I really have to drag an old, defunct system around with me when the new hardware is perfectly capable of hosting it?

The retro gamer within me weeps....

The should also make it possible to transfer those Gameboy games and perhaps Snes games to the DS. That would be awesome.

You forgot to mention this very rare GBA game

I only listed stuff I've played, thought about getting, or definitely want (like Ghost Babel). Heard of Ninja Five-O, but that's about it, sorry to say.

NES, Master System, Genesis, TG-16, and Neo Geo games should be transferable to DS too!

And yes, Nintendo should have GB games on VC.

You definitely want Ninja Five-O (or Ninja Cop, depends on your region), but you do not know it yet.

Check out some footage

It's kind of a mix of Shinobi and Bionic Commando, huh? Looks pretty cool!

Yep, it's like Budha and Jesus rolled into one! There are even stealth elements!

That game definitely looks great! Probably not something I'd get now, but I can see the appeal.

Here's how awesome that game is.

When I got GH3, I named my band in honour of that game.

But yeah, I do agree. Nintendo really need to get on this - especially with the DSi. I'd love to be able to (legally) play some of these excellent Game Boy/GBA games on the go. I'd gladly pay money for Pokemon Gold on the DS.

I only appreciate the awesomeness of Pokémon Gold/Silver more after having played suffered through Pearl.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobile

Pearl wasn't too bad. Not the best Pokemon game (that's GSC), but the Wi-Fi stuff was neat...if not incredibly broken.

G/S/C has the greatest rival theme ever though - that just beats the Gary Oak theme.

With the DSi portable VC games should be a reality.

It's ass. But what I would really want is a USB cartridge slot for Wii so I could plug in my old N64 games. Some can't be released because of licencing issues, Goldeneye etc and the N64 releases are paltry since all Rare games are virtually off the radar.

I've been dying to play Metroid 2 since forever.  What a great little game.

If you feel that the history of Game Boy games are threatened and Nintendo has no plans of continuing the legacy, I think it seems perfectly legitimate that you go about acquiring and trying to preserve them yourself by any means necessary. If Nintendo doesn't feel it's worth the effort to port GB games on virtual console (or even just make a USB connector that you can plug GB cartridges into), then by extention I suppose that means they no longer have any market value LOL.

If you put a classified ad on a free site like Kijiji, I'm sure you could find people willing to give you dozens of cartridges for practically nothing.

... Or just get it some kind of free way *whistles*

So what if they are saving this for DS2? Or maybe later they will introduce downloads of classic portable games to DSi? Would you be happy then or annoyed that you couldn't just use your exising carts?
