Given we are driven by discussion, it seems like an interesting idea to go meta with this and discuss how we all like to discuss, whether it be face-to-face, over the phone, or with the Interwebs.

I want to hear two parts

1 - How you discuss

Myself, I really don't initiate things, because, well, I can't help but approach the world like I would a search engine.  You only get my input if I need to query some info.  So I'll then stay to the side until, usually, I hear something stupid, and I point out why.  How stupid you are and how brazen about it you are determines how much you'll get out of me.

2 - What you discuss

Topic-wise, as you may have noticed already, I can only really go on at length about technology, philosophy and games.  Pretty much anything else and you'll get nothing out of me, mainly due to the previously mentioned methodology.  I may or may not be interested, but I'll have nothing to say about it.  The more inane, the worse, hence small-talk makes me comatose.  If you bring up the weather, I silently wish to crush you.

I prefer to communicate with text, because I can think about what I'm trying to say before I say it (which is usually a good idea!). I lack the necessary skills for successful verbal communication, since I seem to annoy people. Then again, I seem to do that in text as well. LOL

I'll talk for hours on computer technology and video games, but little else. I have other interests, but I rarely share them with other people out of fear that it would bore them.

Yeah, it's 82 degrees where I'm at right now (at 6 at night) -- with a slight breeze to make everything alright.

Well, discussion.  I'm a hermit so I don't really get to talk to anyone other than my ball and chain, so I've got nothing to add here.  I'm really into politics (US and AU), so those I talk about for hours on end.  Politics is a slight derivation of sport to me, or probably closer to MMA/ WWE to some people (I don't have any exp in those areas), but politics combines soap opera with performance, so it's endlessly interesting to me and I can talk on the subject forever.

Anything game related (non-PC) I can really go on for hours on end.  Unfortunately, no-one but my wife (in RL) has any interest in the topic.

Other than that, I don't touch religion, 'cause it's hard to do so without straight up insulting the other party's intelligence, so if it's a dude I'll talk sports (NBA, MLB or NFL) or a lady I'll talk to her about her work or kids. It is important to ask follow up questions, regardless of how mundane the initial response. This challenges the speaker to really open up, and before you know it conversation happens organically.

If you want to broaden your conversation topics I'd subscribe to about 20 different magazines that touch on each aspect of society.  As a single man, that worked out quite well for me, everything from fashion to gardening to travel to foreign policy to motor sports.

The fact that you guys use the retarded Fahrenheit system and not the clearly superior Celsius or Kelvin system makes me angry.

The fact that you put MMA/WWE together makes me sad.

I prefer to communicate with rhythm. I bang my erect penis on a drum and let the sound do the rest.

Then you should have used the Celsius scale. Seriously Americans the Celsius scale is very easy. Zero degrees is the melting point of water and 100 degrees is the boiling point of water. It the temperature is below zero it is snowing, above zero it is raining. Room temperature is 20 degrees. Human body is 36 degrees. Hot  summer day is 30 degrees. Very hot summer day is 40 degrees. Fuck I am in the desert is 50 degrees. See simple.

I do not initiate conversation. I sit back and gauge people on their sense of humour, and interests. If too much is taboo to them, and their general knowledge is bunk, I gradually excommunicate myself from that social circle.

I like to think I can talk a little about everything, though I am infamous for having strange random gaps in knowledge. If you want me to talk your ears off for hours, give me a bottle of vodka, and ask me about psychology, human development, anthropology, electronics, heavy metal, the 90's, Doom, or video games in general.

I think we should use the traditional 5-star system of review for temperature, with 5 stars being very, very hot.
