Edit: also funny Sony was at its best when it had the weaker hardware by far. This industry is all about entertainment and not the other way around. Sony seems to forget that.

Yeah, that's why they self-publish all these games that take years to complete like Heavy Rain, GT5 and The Last Guardian. Sony has a commitment to good and different games.

They did that last gen too and GT was better received critically and saleswise. Did not cost them as much as well, they fuck up there. About Last Guardian, Team Ico published two games last gen, they have nothing now, also a step backwards. And now about Heavy Rain. Heav Rain is crap and you should be ashamed for mentioning it. Two of the 3 games you mentioned are not so different for what they did last gen.

But that above is not the point. The point is, that the hardware, you know the thing we are talking about, does not need to be cutting edge with Blu-Ray and stuff. Sony's drive to push technology at all cost is misguided at best. They struck a much better balance in the PS1 and PS2 generation.

As I understand it you are saying that Sony spent too much on technology in the PS3?

That's a strange thing to be animated about.  They are making money on each console, so they didn't go overboard.

As for picking apart individual games, that's an exercise in futility. My point was that Sony plunges tons of money into the creative process, leaving the developers to do as they wish -- since money talks -- that's a sign of their comitment to entertainment.

I'm a bit disapopinted that you wasted your time with individual critiques of games, you are a better thinker than that.

Please tell me you are joking? You are joking right? Every penny that Sony made with the PS2 and PS1 they lost with the PS3. They did go way overboard. All because they wanted to push blu-ray and Cell. Not sure what you are arguing about.

Games are irrelevant, we were talking about hardware. And I would hardly classify GT5 and HR as entertainment.

I guess I just don't understand what you are complaining about.

I am not complaining, just pointing out flaws in GGs argument. Often in a assholish and sarcastic matter.

GG was making "a modest proposal" I don;t think he has much time for Sony at all.

Anyway, do you still have helicopteritis? Or come any closer to finding out why you are sick?

Okay, that makes me happy. I hope you get a job when you want one.  I've been thinking of getting a job, just to get out and see some people.  I'm sure at my glacial pace it will take me a couple more years to actually do anything about it.

For the record I was not being sarcastic. When it comes to Sony there have always been barriers to my entry, cost, release dates, that damned dual shock. And the fact that I have a capacity limit for consoles and handhelds.

1 handheld per generation and since I love my Nintendo franchises, they would have to monumentally fuck up for me not to get their portable.

2 home consoles per generation. PS3 launched so late that the 360 had a price cut by then and some cheap games to pick up.

Last gen I had a cube and xbox and didn't like the look of PS2 or what I heard about the consoles reliability. I guess a visit to a friends house and trying that controller did me in too.

What do you not like about the Dual Shock, GG? Just curious.

I wish it were bigger and more rounded, the pointiness of it hurts my hands after a short while.

I hate the broken d=pad, I don't like the two sets of shoulder buttons, the 360 triggers are okay with the dreamcast like analogue buttons underneath. But I hate, hate, hate with a vengeance any control pad which puts the control sticks on the bottom, the left one I mean, like the Wii CC and like the dualshock.

I also don't like how angular it is. The GC controller has a tiny penis C-stick and a tiny little d-pad. But ergonomically the shape and buttons were perfectly comfortable to me. Especially the curved shoulder buttons and shell shape.
