Nah I can understand that. There was definitely a lack of preciseness, but I think it fitted in with the animation to make a much more fluid experience, as ico's animation was very loose. It's a matter or taste, though, and I can definitely understand why you woudln't like it if you wanted precise control! Same goes for combat, which I actually did enjoy (I got all the best weapons, but if I had been using the stick for the whole game Iwould've despiced it msot likely) as it managed to do what many games fail to do, and that is give me a feeling of "fear" when the enemies appear, both for Ico and Yorda. Another game that springs to mind with that is Eternal Darkness, even though there was almost never a fear of me being killed due to the easiness of the game.

Anyway you should definitely give SOTC a go going by what you disliked in Ico. It's really nothing like it, in fact from what I've seen of God of War, I think you'd probably like it. Yes it is still primarily more of a platforming game rather than an action one, but there's a hell of a lot more aciton in it, and it's much faster paced, save when you're riding the horse around! But perhaps give it a rent, as the controls can be a little more imprecisise. In fact, sometimes I was annoyed with the controls (which rarely happened in Ico ) as there is often a much larger need to for precision in SOTC.

SotC, is in my opinion, one of the greatest games ever made, top 5 without a doubt!

It's just so amazing and awe-inspiring. It's a masterpiece.

From all the games I've played this is my list of games that blew me away:

1. Zelda Ocarina of Time
2. Resident Evil 4
3. Shadow of the Colossus

SotC is up there on my all-time faves!

It's odd, but PS2 games just don't appeal to me in the least, even last gen. There's just something about the PS2's style of games that doesn't do it for me.

what do you mean by PS2 style of games?  there are so many games of so many different styles i think

It's hard to describe, but it's there (at least in my mind). Take away the multiplatform games, and the style of the exclusive games just doesn't appeal to me. It was the same with the PS1 and now PS3.

What are your two favorite genres?

No price drop here in the UK. Our currency is in the dumps.

Cant believe Sony crapped out on PS3 BC in europe. So many games I wanted to try. Alas there are so many news AND old games on current gen systems it looks like I will never get to play a great chunk of great PS2 games.

As is Australia. Fucking Sony ALWAYS FUCKING OVER EUROPE. ALWAYS.

So for some reason, I'm getting back into Bully. Is very very fun.

Yeah it didn't help that PS3 launched for like $900 here.

Bully is awesome, one of my favourite games. You can pick up the Wii scholarship edition for pennies from amazon now. I got my bro the 360 one and he says its bugged up too. Screen flickering, weird bugs and character flaws. I prefer Bully to GTA without a doubt.

I played Okami on Wii; it's a decent game, but nothing I couldn't have lived without.
Same.

Only LBP? That's actually the game I'd least want that I listed, just because I'm tired of platformers.

You need at least a PS2 so you can see what kind of experiences the Metal Gear series provides.
ICO bores me. I've beaten it, but I hate the movement and combat, and the lack of action when compared to other games. It's just really slow, and I don't find anything exciting about it, really.
The GoW games are superb, which is why I'm going to discipline Hamster below... with a HapticHamster.

I got MGS 1 and 2. I love platformers and the UCC interests me. I would rather try GOW1 and 2 over 3. MGS4, how can I possibly be interested when I cant play 3 and cant get into 2?

my twopence on ICO:  while the complains on the somewhat imprecise controls and bad combat mechanics are noted and understood, both those aspects of the game are in the back seat.  the game is all about integrating the beautiful and sparse castle environments into intricately woven puzzles and (half) telling a beautiful and moving story.  i think that once you know what you have to do then the controls will not prevent you from doing it (the game is not a precision platformer, zelda which is a game i consider similar to ico in design doesn't even have a jump button).  the combat is so secondary there's basically only one kind of enemy and you just have to run and hit them and prevent them from getting yorda (and they die pretty quickly if you have the sword as opposed to the stick).

this is a beautiful game.  the use of light and shadow, the use of perspective, the castle environments these things are like Giorgio De Chirico masterpieces.  you cannot nitpick it like that for what it doesn't try to do.

in my opinion both fumito ueda's games on the PS2 are masterpieces not simply as games but as works of art ... and the day team ico releases their PS3 game is the day i will in all likelyhood be getting a PS3

Pretty much my thoughts on it. Ico is my favourite game of all time, and SotC is up there with it.
