Making your own jam. I've spent 4 hours on making tomato jam from scratch. I must have spent way more on energy than it would be worth to just buy a jar.

And then I've had to throw it out. And now I smell like burnt sugar and tomatoes.  Which yeah, an improvement over how I usually smell, which is like cigars and whisky.

I came to a similar conclusion back when I was home brewing many many years ago. I tried to make my own mead and wine. It was a lot of work. And as an extra pain in the ass, it would take about 6 months before it was even at a point where you could test it to figure out if you had something worth drinking or not.

In all the batches I made, only one time that I even end up with something remotely drinkable. Although, a friendly acquaintance of mine who was an alcoholic was pretty impressed with my results. Anyway, I pretty much learned that it was cheaper and easier for me to just buy my booze, and the results were guaranteed to be a lot better each time.

So in conclusion, home brewing is overated.

Never tried anything like that before myself but I am intrigued that there is such a thing as tomato jam. Never heard of that before.

I've always thought it was a Southern thing. Pretty sure I've never seen it served anywhere outside of the southeast. That said, I've never thought to travel to Australia and ask amongst the general citizenry.

I think Rragnar used to do some home brewing. As for tomato jam, it doesnt seem too popular around here.

Limoncello isn't really homebrewing. It's more of an infusion because you use alcohol as a main ingredient. You start out using a spirit, usually vodka, and then add lemons, sugar and water.

It's pretty easy to do overall, and absolutely wonderful to drink. Anyway tell acquaintance to switch it up and use oranges next time.

Same. Homebrewing beer is painfully unfulfilling.

I do have three family and associates that have their own stills and do a great job. I don't want to go down that route, it would end in my demise.

It's not that commen here anymore.  But it is a nice jam, a slight tartness to it.

1 part sugar to 1 part tomato. score and skin the tomatoes first then add 1/4 tbspoon of ground ginger, 1 lemon rind and lemon juice to firm.  stir for 2-3 ours until firm.

Good if you have a surplus of tomatoes.

Made a mellomell many years back. Still providing an excellent and versatile drink (also great for cooking) many years later. So little effort for such a great and long-lasting result. What are you people doing wrong?

Reminds me of this recipe video for ketchup that is basically "don't do this, it's so hard for no payoff"

Also overated, "working for the weekend"

I cannot imagine having a job where I spend 5 days a week just so I can get to enjoy two days off. Enjoy your work and every day is equally enjoyable.

I've had some bad jobs and I don't think I've ever hated work.

What about the song by Loverboy,"Working For The Weekend?

Personally I think it's overplayed, but not overrated. That's a good solid song.

I always associate that song with Bang the Drum All Day by Todd Rundgren. Also solid.
