 The first one was good, others not so hot, especially the sam neil one. 

I loved the decapitation shot in Omen 1.

The scariest part of the Omen films was the music. It still gives me the willies.

So tonight I watched Ethan and Joel Coen's latest masterpiece:

If there was any further proof needed that the Coen brothers are America's best film makers then this film is just that.

The story revolves around a kind of slowly escalating crisis in the life of a university professor of theoretical physics and the various effects on his life and state of mind, of events in his surroundings.  

The films greatness, like many of the Coen brothers' films, is very subtle and understated.  It is in equal measures both funny and sad and above all completely absurd.

I don't think i'm doing a great job of describing this or explaining why it's so great so i'll leave it here.  But please make sure you watch this first chance you get to do so.

New one? Hasn't been shown yet damnit.

New Flashforward, second half of season 1 I think starts this monday. Its a little weird over here, we are used to shows doing a whole season episode after episode till the end. But to do this, channels used to just wait till the series was done and air the whole thing. Now we are into this, get the episodes a little after the US, days here, not months and we have this weird mid-season break thing to contend with.

UK TV says like its the end of the series when I know I've only watched 12 episodes and there is more to come, I'm like, WTF? This is not the end, oh crap, another break.

Flashforward has so many British actors its embarrasing though. It would be like having a UK show with mainly (picks random country) Swedish actors in.

^^ I think you will really like it if you have enjoyed their previous films.  It has all of the elements that make for a great Coen movie.  It also benefits from an almost completely unknown cast.

Last night i watched the hurt locker.

I don't often watch war films.  Not because i haven't the stomach for them, but more because i think a lot of them are somewhat dogmatic.

this one is a film about an on-going war and as such it feels more urgent and relevant.  it is also a seemingly more complex war both in the morals of it as well as in how it is being fought.  the hurt locker makes no statements about the former.  IMO it doesn't attempt to condemn or justify the war, nor does it attempt to glorify or demonise the US soldiers.  the premise is in fact pretty simple.  the film follows around a US bomb squad during the last month or so of their duty.  this was interesting for me as (from listening to BFBS in the car) i know that roadside blasts, trapped cars and suicide bombs is what kills most US, UK and coalition forces.  watching it i feel i know a little bit more about what those people are fighting against.

the film is very well made and the set pieces it revolves around are very tense and suspenseful.  in a sense it reminded me of "enemy at the gates" even though the premise was totally different (russian snipers trying to keep the nazi army from advancing into lenningrand in WW2).  it also plays out more like a police thriller since it never shows any full scale fights.

thought it was a good film for what it was.  recommended

Shatner is hilarious, he always holds people close in some sort of dramatic death grip, he's like the close talker in Seinfeld. And they keep using the same bars and clubs for scenes.

If you haven't already seen it try to track down "The Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner."  The man gets absolutely destroyed by the other roasters, and it's an absolute riot to watch.  Lot of good TJ Hooker shots in it too though most were actually directed at the other cast members.

5 episodes into Love Hina

I like it so far.  It doesn't exactly stand out, but what it does it does pretty well.  The premise is the lead character, Keitaro, has been trying (and failing) to gain acceptance to Tokyo University, and ends up managing a girls' dorm his grandmother retired from.  Just take standard anime fair from there.
