What good indie games or cheap deals have you either owned or heard of that are available on modern systems?

Owned:

The DarkSide Detective 1 and 2 - hilarious retro point and click games about a supernatural detective duo

Yesterday Origins - similar to Broken Sword

Outlast - initially great horror game that gets repetitive

Agent A - excellent little point and click puzzle/spy game

The Inner World 1 and 2 - quirky graphic adventures in a unique world. The controls in 1 aren't great so get it on a platform where it has mouse or touch screen. Second game does, on Switch

Bastion - isometric beat Em up. Quite fun, a touch repetitive

Irony Curtain - supposedly great comedy point and click that mocks communism

Jenny Leclue - super polished detective adventure game

Transistor - from the makers of Bastion

Jotun from the makers of Sundered

Scheming through the Zombie Apocalypse - scam animals into raiding zombie filled shops for goods

NAIRI Tower of Shirin - reviews say its a gem, puzzle graphic adventure

Thimbleweed Park - really excellent graphic adventure comedy

Lost Horizon - better than expected, Fate of Atlantis replacement

Lost Horizon 2 - more serious and less interesting sequel

Syberia 1 and 2 - old ass but classic graphic adventure games

Gibbous - sumptuously animated graphic adventure

What Remains of Edith Finch - first person narrative

Batman Telltale games x2 - kinda like interactive Batman movies

Leisure Suit Larry Wet Dreams don't dry - well received remake

Deponia 1 to 4 - from the Lucasarts of Germany, Daedalic

The Little Acre - short but sweet Irish set graphic adventure

Grim Fandango - overrated but okay adventure game

Broken Sword 5 - really good, worthy return to form

Abzu - arty junk scuba diving game

Trine 1 to 4 - great 2.5 platformer that is fun in single player and Co op

Ghost busters Remastered - Decent game, but I had to restart on easy as it was annoyingly difficult

Bulletstorm - highly polished fps I need to continue with

I'll add more later. How about you guys? Is Fez worth it?

The Artifex Mundi Collection: Hidden object games, frequently on sale for £1.30 each

These play like first person point and click games. They are highly polished and relaxing fun, set in hugely imaginative game worlds with often stunning artwork. You can tell from how many I've bought that these are really enjoyable games, especially if you played PC games in the 90s

THE BEST
Nightmares from the Deep 2
Enigmatis 2
Grim Legends The Forsaken Bride
Demon Hunter Revelation - exceptionaly generous
Family Mysteries Poisonous Promises
Family Mysteries Echoes of tommorow - Terminator 2, the point and click version
Endless Fables Dark Moor
Dreamwalker
Scarlett Mysteries
Dark Arcana

THE REST
The Secret Order Returned to the Buried Kingdom
Queens Quest 3
Queens Quest 4 - like 2D Elder Scrolls
Persian Nights 1 and 2 - Prince of Persia the point and click version
Grim Legends 3 - this one is average
Abyss The Wraiths of Eden - Bioshock replacement
Kings Heir - like a 2D Elder Scrolls, a touch short

OTHER DEVELOPERS:
True Fear Forsaken Souls 1 and 2 - excellent, horror themed

AVOID:
Lost Land series by five-bn games as the cursor speed is unacceptable

Hmm they mention that Monster Boy has 8 bit platforming! This is not true at all. There are some tricky platforming section, but they are nowhere close to the 8 bit era of finicky platforming. Heck Hollow Knight has much more and harsher platforming than Monster Boy.

Also the rest of their list is kinda whack.

Dead Cells is not a Metroidvania. It is a rogue lite with some Metroid elements. Still one of the best games on the Switch.

Cave Story is not a Metroidvania neither is Owlboy. Shantea Pirate's Curse technically is, but there is no interconnected map. They are kinda seperate levels with a level select screen.

Also Axiom Verge is a Metroid clone, but I just find it annoying to play. Not really a fan.

And Ori and the Blind Forest is just meh. The combat is bad and so is the platforming.

I assume this thread was made for my benefit, what with the "damming" first sentence. cheeky

Thanks for the copious recommendations. I don't buy as many games as I used to (and that still wasn't many then), so I try to be picky. I've learned that nostalgia is a very bad thing for me, especially because it isn't impetus enough to make me actually play the games that cause it. I still enjoy metroidvanias, as Hollow Knight is demonstrating to me, but I think that a big part of the reason I'm enjoying that game as much as I am is the art, music, lore, and world-building, which remind me of Dark Souls (perhaps my favorite series). I looked at some videos of Axiom Verge, and the 8-bit, monotonous graphics put me off. I've been through Cave Story years ago, but don't really feel like replaying it. I'll be trying the Ori games on Game Pass at some point. Not yet sure about Sundered and Dead Cells.

Right now, the only indie games I plan on buying are Hollow Knight (I've been playing on Game Pass, but want to own it), Stardew Valley, Blasphemous, the Bloodstained games, and Rivals of Aether. Beyond that, my time will be completely occupied getting through RE: Village, Halo Infinite, Elden Ring, Metroid Dread, and the next Zelda. Waiting for info on Callisto Project. I'll have to come back to the lists you guys are making when I'm feeling like more indie stuff, though. Thank you. smiley

I've been waiting on a Hollow Knight sale for ages. When it first came out it was on sale then no sale since as far as I can see. Beaver you should just hobo buy games on sale. Some are so cheap I have zero hesitation buying them.
