I haven't played anything lately. First due to all the Christmas visiting and today I woke up with the flu. I did get my flu-shot about a month ago but I guess they missed this strain because I feel like total crap.
Congrats on the 3DS preorder Leo. I wouldn't mind putting some money down for one myself.
Wait... WHAT!! You fixed your old PS3? That's awesome that you were able to get some money out of it.
damn music from jet grind radio just poped into my head now i miss the game
The funny thing is you're not talking about Red Dead Redemption...right?
Yeah, I got the soundtrack with a pre-order bonus years ago. Still holds up.
DC Universe beta says hello with its 15GB DOWNLOAD.
15GB!? That's a month and a half of my internet allowance.
Yup! Console version of 2010 is pretty neat, yet complex like you wouldn't believe.
Wow!
That's like a 24 hour download!
Screw that! Just wait for the discs to just install everything.

GG...DKCR impressions, please.
I enjoyed it some more last night, got to the space ship battle which was cool. Kind of like a slower Rogue Squadron. I'm still not feeling the Halo vibe, I think the music is the biggest factor but the story isn't connecting with me either. I would say Halo 1 is my fave followed by 3 then Reach, then 2. I recorded a video last night of the AI in Reach, I'll post it sometime this week, can't believe the AI is still getting stuck all over the place or wistfully hanging around the side door of the Warthog when you just want them JUMP in already. I think when I finish Reach I will sell it and then play Halo 3 again and wait for the Halo 1 remake. Or use the cash to buy ODST as Edgecrusher likes it.
BTW, what am I supposed to be doing with the forklift trucks? Is there any point to driving them or is there a Shenmue fan at Bungie?
You're lucky you don't have my connection, you'd have to leave it on overnight.
I played some more, just passed the mushroom world selection of levels. Considering that Retro's expertise lies in first person adventure games, it's pretty remarkable what they have done here, to produce such a well polished and engaging platformer.
That said I would be one of the guys who gives it a 8/10 or something, it's very solid, looks be-autiful too. The rocket barrel sections I hate, one hit deaths and just tapping a button to make it through. Also the mine cart ones can be annoying. Mostly I do fine but in the cave world selection of levels I super guided 2 of the levels. As I watched Super Kong do his thing I just saw how ridiculous - yet epic those levels were. It's what I expected all of Bit Trip Runner to be like, they basically want you to do a level perfectly all the way through or face a one hit death. Really harsh.
Also the guy who recorded the super kong playthroughs isn't very good, he misses all the jigsaw pieces and KONG letters. The NSMB wii guy is like a demon in comparison.
One thing that bugs me is the trial and error, you can be happily jumping about on solid platforms and then in the blink of an eye the next set of platforms will set off this chain of crumbling deaths that you couldn't even see coming. So you die and restart and remember the point where it all began.
Overall though, I like DKCR a lot, as it's old school and you can quickly play chunks here and there. Honestly though it wouldn't even be in my top 5 of the year.
The AI gave you trouble? I guess it's hit or miss. Purposefully, in all vehicle segments I let the AI handle the driving, and I never got stuck or had an issue. Enemy AI was very good as well, taking cover when injured, flanking you in groups, and sticking plasma grenades with frightening precision.
Gameplay is tight, but I loved the story and its characters. As the plot unfolded, it gave you a feeling of hopelessness unmatched by the power trips of the Master Chief Halo titles.
So am I still a horrible old man who hates everything now that we have very similar views on the game?
Damnit, you let the AI do all the driving? I purposely swing completely the other way. I always have to drive. On the two occasions I haven't, the AI has suicided me or driven up to an obstacle and then had to reverse slowly whilst I get shot to death.
The Elites in the white outfits and some in the orange-bronze outfits are the only ones who are annoying, the white ones in particular just jump all about the place randomly or run about incoherently like their pants are on fire. I aim my cursor at the white ones and they just hops from left to right inccesently like he's taunting me. Or starts running about around objects with no sense of place or cover.
It's more the friendly AI, sometimes I am with a character and he gets stuck on scenery so I can't progress. I try to smack him out with a melee with no luck.
I haven't really gotten into the plot yet, does it pick up after the spaceship battle? I'm used to Halo being big and grand, sort of a spectacle stage setting, so all this talking between the squad stuff seems quite deft and quiet in comparison. Honestly it's hard to hear the audio of their voices too and I'm sitting 2 feet in front of my speakers.
Yes.
What I do is ride about in the warthog as a driver, do circles around the bad guys and try to wait for the gunner to take them out. Or I try and run people over. I will never lose my love for the warthog in Halo, it's the best part of the games IMO. I wish I could shoot and drive at the same time though.
Do you think I would enjoy ODST over Reach at all? What are the main differences?
BTW why doesn't your username show up on the recently spotted list?
