Listened to some so far. It sounds like you missed out on a bit there in Dragon's Dogma Yoda. There are more enemies then you mentioned. The large climbable creatures are:
  • Cyclops
  • Ogres
  • Chimera
  • Griffons
  • Hydra
  • Drakes
  • Wyverns
  • Golems
  • The Dragon
  • Ur Dragon
  • Cockatrice
  • Beholder Eye
I may even be missing 1 but I'll have to check. Granted the dragon variants ie. drakes and wyverns aren't much different. Some of these creatures can be difficult to find. Cockatrice, Griffons, and Hydra can only be found to fight freely after specific points in the game. There's also some "special" tough enemies to be found such as Wrights and Skeleton Lords.

The list of menial enemies isn't huge but I thought it was ok. You have:
  • Bandits
  • Goblins
  • Harpies
  • Saurians
  • Skeletons
  • Wolves
  • Gargoyles
  • Spiders
  • Snakes
  • Bats
  • Rats
  • Undead
  • Phantasms
Granted the Spiders, Snakes, and Bats are extremely menial enemies in that they hardly pose any risk save but a slight annoyance. The other creatures usually have a variant or two that make things a bit more interesting such as the bandits have mages, rangers, fighters, and warrior classes. The Saurians have regular, sulper which cloak to near invisibility, and geo. Skeletons have mages, fighters, and warriors. Wolves and Harpies don't change too much save for Dire wolves being stronger and more aggressive. Snow Harpies are just stronger and have an ice blast attack which can freeze you.

As fo traveling yeah it can be a bit cumbersome and repetitive but I think they did it this way because the game is meant to be explored. The quests you are given seem to be done in a way to get you to travel to all the places on the map and in so doing by traveling by foot you find and discover the whole layout of the land so to speak. you get familiar with enemy locations, resource and treasure locations, explore hidden caves and other nooks and crannies. I'm now on a New Game + playthrough and I have 10 portcrystals placed about the map for quick travel. I never really had much of a problem with money as there's a lot of notice board quests that give some good coin for completion some are 200,000, 500,000, and even 750,000. I mainly use the armour and weapons I find in treasure chests.

I do agree that the story is pretty bare-bones but there is a bit more to it then what you say but I really don't want to spoil what little there is. I'm not saying you're opinion is wrong though just relaying the experience I had with the game. As a new type of game from Capcom even though there's a lot of Monster Hunter to it I found it to be a very promising start with great potential and that it's shortcomings were not enough to weigh it down too much.

To be fair you can pretty easily miss out on fighting Griffons, Cockatrice, Beholder Eye, Wyverns, Drakes, and Hydras. Griffons and Cockatrice can only be freely encountered after they're initial key fight in select locations which can happen late in the game. Hydras are difficult to hunt and also happen late in the game. Beholder Eyes, of which I've only fought once, are located in the Everfall near the end which is best described as a post-game environment. There is also some much tougher enemies post-game like Hellhounds. This game was meant to be explored. You can miss a lot if you just focus on main game.

Ur Dragon is a special boss that can either be fought in offline or online mode. Online mode is much cooler. In that mode he has massive health and anyone who fights him contributes to defeating him. His health only regenerates in certain circumstances and only by so much. You fight him for about 8 minutes before he leaves and the damage you've done to him gets saved to the server. It can take days to beat him depending on how many people are fighting him online. If you're lucky enough to encounter him when he's almost dead and you land a killing blow you get a lot of exp. and some great treasure. There's quite a bit to it such as 'grace periods' and want-not but if you follow the threads people have on Gamefaqs for each generation or Ur Dragon detailing his state of health it's not that had to get in for a killing blow. With each death he comes back strong. On 360 he's currently at generation 54.

I forgot the undead guys and the saurians.  The cockatrice, hydra and eye I counted under bosses, the rest are variants.  I didn't count the ravens, spiders etc.  The epilogue I was severely underpowered/underleveled and couldn't damage anything.

- next xbox, yeah what I was saying was that the next xbox will come out at E3 next year and then be available for sale in Fall of 2013.  The old E3, E3, launch cycle just doesn't make sense any more for consumer electronics launches.

- On the design discussion Vader is right about everything, Yoda is wrong about everything. and Foolz is right about Yakuza and Binary Domain.

- Vader wants to know more about what happens in these big developers?  The only way we ever find out about this tuff is when they go under.

- Maniacal is pronounced Man-eye-a-kal, not Mani-ackle. (Foolz)

- Alan Wake sounds awesome.

- I advised against the 3D TV not because I am anti-3D, but it was because you had no room for it (and should have bought a Vita instead).

- That EA settlement was just EA's proposal. I don't think it has been accepted or ruled on yet.

- line of the show; Vader, "I assume it's not like real racing at all."

- Yoda, you sniff more than a coke fiend

- "The Japanese Curt Schilling is managing them". LOL

- Columbia. Idiot. Read the story! Project COlumbia was a project seperate from the Flight project.

- LOL Gabe in mo-cap suit.

So Super Mario Galaxy isn't well designed?  You suck.

You can speed through text in 999 in scenes you have already seen once you've played through the game once. There are multiple, multiple endings and you are going to WANT to see as many as you can. The writing in the game is unbelievably descriptive and detailed; it is like a great steak, meant to be savored. You read each line like you chew each morsel, slowly... you don't want to miss a thing! The way the game plays with your pre-conceived notions of people... How it describes carnage... You've never played a game like this one before. I thought while everyone was on a reading 'A Song of Fire and Ice' kick, a book that also celebrates lengthy description and tons of detail... now would be the perfect time to try to get people interested in the game. The design of the game is great too: the puzzles are simple but the way they psychologically set you up and feed you clues... that combined with the painstaking writing...

Oh well.

Sad

+1

I am sure we can seperate our dislike of unscrollable text with how good the game is.

I don't count the ravens as well as the wild boars, deer, and cattle because they don't really attack you like the spiders, snakes, rats and bats. While there are boss fight instances with the Cockatrice, Hydra, and Griffon they become huntable creatures just like the other big monsters like the Cyclops, Chimera, Ogres, etc. as you can then find and fight them as many times as you want out in the world after the initial fight with them or after certain points in the game.
