I don't count the ravens as well as the wild boars, deer, and cattle because they don't really attack you like the spiders, snakes, rats and bats. While there are boss fight instances with the Cockatrice, Hydra, and Griffon they become huntable creatures just like the other big monsters like the Cyclops, Chimera, Ogres, etc. as you can then find and fight them as many times as you want out in the world after the initial fight with them or after certain points in the game.

Yeah, there's an ambiguous line there.  If you count them out as bosses, though, then basically all you have left is the dragon.  I never ran into a wild cockatrice or hydra.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobile

I forgot the undead guys and the saurians.  The cockatrice, hydra and eye I counted under bosses, the rest are variants.
The rest of what are variants? All the creatures I mentioned are unique and they have variants ie.
  • Goblins - Hobgoblins
  • Harpies - Snow Harpies
  • Wolves - Dire Wolves, Hellhounds
  • Undead - Undead Warriors, Peasants, Stout
  • Saurions - Sulfur, Geo

Well the initial Cyclops fight could be classified as a boss fight as well since like the Cockatrice, Hydra, and Griffon you are forced into a fight with them at first. This is a game where exploration and doing notice board quests is important. The second Hydra fight is a notice board quest that will let you then hunt the Hydra after you do it so you probably missed that notice board quest. The Cockatrice is like the Griffon in that they can be harder to find then Cyclops or Chimera so you need to find where they spawn and hunt them there. By time you do the Cockatrice fight you're near the end of the game so you may not go back and explore other areas of the game where they are found again

Dragon's Dogma is a game that highly encourages exploration, doing side quests, and playing through at least twice. If ever there was a game where mostly just playing through the 'main game' could possibly leave one disappointed and/or frustrated because they may be under-leveled this would be that game.

Sorry. I'll admit, I was skipping around the podcast, excitedly trying to find your impressions, and I only heard the unskippable text part. I would add that I was drunk_leo at that time, but that shouldn't really matter... I was expecting to hear excitement, but I only heard the worst parts and at the moment it was as if someone ran over my cat and kicked a baby.

Ok anyone else have troubles with the forced wided screen, I was playing it for a few days with just a little letter boxing but today the stupid game decided to double the size of the letter box suddenly. I can't get it back to normal now. If I start a new game it goes back to normal momentarily. Then back to the double sized LB CAPCOM You suck, shoddy buggy code. I like the game but the double letterboxing is driving me crazy.

It really wasnt true impressions of the game more it was part of the game design examples section.

That's odd. Playing on 360, I assume? I haven't encountered any problems with letter-boxing at all. I'm on PS3 though.

Close thread IMO. Fuck Dragon's Dogma.

- On the design discussion Vader is right about everything, Yoda is wrong about everything. and Foolz is right about Yakuza and Binary Domain.

- Vader wants to know more about what happens in these big developers?  The only way we ever find out about this tuff is when they go under.

- Maniacal is pronounced Man-eye-a-kal, not Mani-ackle. (Foolz)

- Columbia. Idiot. Read the story! Project COlumbia was a project seperate from the Flight project.

Vader was pretty much agreeing with Yoda, except saying that level design made up for it.

Well he'll be in luck over the next few years then.

I'll make a note of always pronouncing it mani-ackal.

You posted the content of another story, with the link to a differrent one. LOL

Not going to happen.

Yeah on 360 on 16 x 10 monitor @  1680 x 1050 the weird thing is it was fine for the first few days, now all of a sudden it decides to treat me like I'm on  a standard 4:3 screen it looks terrible now. I  am miffed.

I haven't bought the game due to the horrible letterbox. I'll wait for the PC version.

You gotta be able to google that and find out what's going on. I've never heard of anything like that before. I don't think it's the coding of the game...

Pretty much all the videos on YouTube have letterboxing. Seems like a standard thing. It's even mentioned in the G4TV review.

I know it's letter-boxed, but I haven't heard of it becoming doubly so as the game goes on...

I quite enjoyed the Alan Wake impressions. And the Re6 and Rayman sections too. Very entertaining.

Ah. It's possible that something happened with his monitor settings?
